An Off Day

We are on our way to the doctor. We got an appointment with Dr. Santos at the Laguna Hills Seaview Pediatrics.  His poor little face is so sad looking. Looks like the bites got bigger.

Stopped by CVS across the street from the TAJ Mahal Medical Center in Laguna Hills to drop off the prescription the doctor gave us yesterday. This way we don't have to wait for them to fill it after the doctor's appointment. We could easily just pick it up.

Just got out of the doctor's office. Dr. Santos turned out to be a woman. Thought she was gonna be a man. Heeheee!!!

The doc says there's really nothing out of the ordinary that's actually wrong but we do have to just keep an eye on the bites. She says the reason it looks a bit bigger is that it's reacting to the antibiotics. So he's perfectly ok. The bites just don't look too pretty.

I've been waiting 15 minutes at the pharmacy now. A bit pissed off because the whole purpose of us dropping it off earlier was so we didn't have to wait. They said they are "just" trying to fill it now. Agh!!!!

Stopped by for some chicken sandwiches at Chick Filet.

On our way to the Apple store at Mission Mall in Mission Viejo. Owen's iPhone 4 suddenly doesn't charge at all.

Owen came back into the car (I wanted to let Oli sleep) after going into the Apple store.

"That was quick," I said.

"That's the crappy thing about Apple. As big as it is, they don't seem to have their customer service figured out. I hate that you have to make an appointment for everything. The earliest appointment I can get is at 2:30. We might as well wait. By the time we get home, we'd have to turn around again.

His appointment then got bumped up to 1:40 PM after we got back into the store.

It turns out that Owen's iPhone got corroded inside and just stopped working. He had to buy a brand new phone! They couldn't save it at all! Luckily he backs up his phone. Otherwise he would have all his data completely gone!

While we waited, Oli and I walked around the mall and stopped by the Stimulus Toys store. He knows exactly what he wants to do in there. He loves pushing the doll strollers around. So I put Mickey Mouse in the stroller for him. After walking around the store, he noticed a stand with the Yo Gabba Gabba characters on it. He immediately took Mickey Mouse out of the stroller and replaced him with Brobie. He suddenly got this huge smile on his face and started walking around the store happier than he was earlier. What a funny thing to do for a 19 month old.

3:35 PM

We arrived home after 3. Phew! What a day! I am completely worn out! But Oli had no mercy on us. He just wasn't having a very good day. We finish off the day with a bath and a lot of crying.

6:35 PM

I told Owen I had a lot of work to do. So he made dinner. While he was off to the store, Oli walks around the house with one Pringle I give him. Then just two minutes after I leave him with his Pringle, I hear a hacking sound. Sounded as though something was irritating his throat. I look at him and it seemed as though he had thrown up. He had something that looked like a tiny piece of a nut, or wood, or something in his mouth. It sounded like something had gotten stuck.

When Owen comes home from the store, Oli is still crying. "Did he pick something out of the trash?" he asked.

"I don't think so," I replied.

I had just eaten a lychee and the piece hanging on his shirt looked a bit like a tiny piece of the outside of the lychee. Not quite sure though. Lately he seemed to like dipping his hand in the trash.

"We really have to find a better place for the trash," I said.

"I know!" Owen seemed annoyed.

7:10 PM

Dinner was fantastic. It was the best chili he ever made. Nice and spicy on top of nacho chips and a side of white rice. Yum!

7:35 PM

Oli finally agreed to go into his crib for the night.

A Parent's Greatest Fear

There's a popular local restaurant in Laguna Beach called the "Penguin." The owner is a woman who's maybe in her late 30s or early 40s. Her very young son (I think about 11 years old) has brain stem glioma. Doctor says he has about 6 weeks to live and the operation, which they hoped was going to help him is not going to do any good. They are starting radiation anyway to see if it can miraculously do anything at all.

My heart breaks at the thought of the pain she must go through. She always looked so sweet and happy at the restaurant. Always so upbeat and positive.

When I look at my little baby, I feel as though he absolutely is my life. Everything revolves around my little Oli. I am currently blessed to have a healthy baby and know that I will truly do my absolute best to cherish every moment with him for as long as I live. In fact, I feel as though I really don't want anymore children because I can't risk pain you can feel for children if they get hurt. I know that there is a lot of joy to having kids but the fear is also there. I would not be able to handle pain if anything does go wrong.

It made me look back at some of the pictures we took, while he was in the NICU during the first week of his life:

Then he started to grow:

I am absolutely in love with him more than I have ever been with anything in my life. I cannot even begin to imagine my life without him.

Toddler Head Bitten By Bugs

Ahhh... another early Sunday!

Oli jumps around and cries for someone to wake him up at 6:15 am today. Couldn't seem to get myself up, especially since I went to bed at past midnight. Tried to get to bed earlier but just couldn't happen for some reason. When I get to sitting down in front of my computer I get so lost and forget what time it is.

After his bottle, he lays down with me for a little bit but of course doesn't really lay down. He laughs and plays and tries to do everything possible to get your attention:

Laughing at the camera's flash! Love them teeth!

Well, as usual, I get up and try to start a little bit of work before I can't do anymore. So Oli sits in the computer room with me:

Never satisfied with just one toy to play with
I put the little man down for a nap at 10:30 am and have enough time to catch up on some some Olympic games and internet work until he wakes up at 12:30 pm.

My husband notices 3 red marks on his head as soon as he wakes up. 2 slightly round and about the size of dimes on his forehead and one a bit bigger and located just where his hairline is. Not sure if you can see it in this picture:

See the top left red mark?

After about 2 hours, I notice him yawning quite a bit and not being as playful as he usually is. He also hasn't eaten any solid foods either. Well, he hasn't been doing it much lately, which probably isn't connected at all to those bumps on his head. The higher temperature of 101.9 seems to be connected though. I give him a bath to see if perhaps this temperature would go down a bit. It did and went down to 99.4 right after his bath.

I'm fortunate enough to have such a great Pediatrician. I emailed him about Oli's condition and he wrote back that I should take him to Kids Doc just to make sure. This is a weekend clinic that's open after hours for children who get sick.

Unfortunately there wasn't a doctor available but there was a nurse practitioner. She was really great. She gave Oli an antibiotic shot, which he absolutely hated. Well, actually, the entire visit to this place seemed really horrible for him. He was not at all happy. When he's sad, I feel extremely sad.

It is now 10:13 pm. I just checked on Oli and he seems quite alright. Well, a slight fever of 101.4, but I will keep an eye on it. I will stay wide awake all night if I have to. Oh, his crib, which was right next to my side of the bed is now at the foot of the bed. I sprayed the natural bed bug spray all around it to keep bugs and spiders away (hopefully). Now it stinks but I'm hoping it keeps him safe throughout the night.

A bit obsessive, but I just took another picture of one side of his head, which had one of the other bites. Looks like there's a line forming on that bite as well:

Bite seems to be getting wider and forming a line

A Day in Laguna Beach

As usual, Bungy woke up a lot earlier than we wished, but it wasn't really bad since I had to get up early anyway. Aunty Joy is visiting from Ohio with Jun. She's been here in California since Sunday, but came to stay with me on Wednesday. Oh, Ann Ann has also been with her since Wednesday. So the three of them have slept in our small house and our small living her for about 3 nights. Today I had to take her back to Uncle Og so that they could go to church.

I had to leave Bungy behind, which was sad, but also felt as though I needed the break. Plus, we couldn't really fit him into our little Audi. There was absolutely no room after we jam packed the car with everyone's things.

Owen says Bungy was pointing at the box of fish crackers on top of the corner kitchen counter and jibber jabbering to get it (in his own baby language of course). Owen didn't want to give him any, because we feel as though he eats it too much and may not actually be good for him. So he just stood there, looking down at the floor, with a pouty little face. Owen says he stood there for about five minutes. Owen was on Skype with his mom, who saw the whole thing and laughed really hard (love the way she laughs).

After I got home, Owen and I took a quick nap, while Bungy sat and watched Sesame street. Well, I meant to only leave him there for about 15 minutes. I think it was a lot longer than I expected though.

At about 4 o'clock pm (PST) Owen sat outside with the little baby and had a fun picture moment (like they usually do). Here are some of his awesome shots:

Whatcha lookin for?

Awesome profile!

At about about 5:45 pm I finally got my butt off of my computer chair and decided to spend at least part of the day outside of the house. So the 3 of us walked into town and grabbed 3 slices of pizza from Pizza lounge. We sat and ate our pizzas on the grass right behind the Main Beach toy store. Bungy had so much fun!

After about 45 minutes, we thought we would take the tram back up the hill to the natural yogurt shop. We waited about 5 minutes and realized there was probably no way we would be able to fit into the tram without being completely crammed. Plus, having to travel with the stroller in a crammed tram seemed more uncomfortable than fun. So we decided to walk. Plus, walking was going to be good for us, especially since we just had some fatty pizza.

Yogurt didn't seem as enjoyable as normal. It was a bit chilly outside and I was just not feeling it with such a full stomach. We all had our sweaters on including Bungy with his new lifeguard sweater that Tory (Ate Ching's boyfriend) gave him.

Sporting his new Lifeguard Sweatshirt!
